Listen
Listening allows us to center the needs of our trans and nonbinary community members. In the story of allyship above, Julian discusses how the Music Director made the point of centering Julianâs voice in the conversation between ensemble members and how this made him feel that he was valued and heard:
An ally needs to center trans voices. A cis person doesnât know what trans people need because theyâre not trans. So you need to center the trans person themselves to hear what they specifically need. Like, âhow can we best help you?â, and then go from there.
