In the story of allyship above, Julian discusses how the Music Director made the point of centering Julian’s voice in the conversation between ensemble members and how this made him feel that he was valued and heard:

An ally needs to center trans voices. A cis person doesn’t know what trans people need because they’re not trans. So you need to center the trans person themselves to hear what they specifically need. Like, “how can we best help you?”, and then go from there.
